Disco Volante "Italian space disco blend" - Dolcetto/Aglianico/Nero d'Avola - 2022 SA
Disco Volante is Italian for UFO and this juicy number gave us plenty of Alien disco vibes when we were putting it together.
The idea was a lighter fresher style of wine that still has plenty of depth and complexity. The Dolcetto is the biggest component at 48% and provides red fruit and vibrancy. Next up we have 35% of Carbonic Macerated Aglianico. Aglianico is one of our favourite varieties for flavour but can have some pretty harsh tannins so we used carbonic maceration to soften things up a bit. This provides the midpalate with plenty of juicy, juicy fruit. The backbone and structure of the wine is Nero d'Avola that spent a year resting in old french oak.
Lots of dark fruit and spice rounds out the wine and makes for the perfect Italo Disco Space blend.
