Grapes and Heartbreak Shiraz Rosado - 2019
Orange, NSW
Grapes and Heartbreak is an allusion to the Kanye song 808's, heartbreak and a long story which I won't get into here.
The short story is, it’s a Chilled Red made for people who want to drink red wine that is cold.
To make the wine, Shiraz grapes were grown in the high altitudes of Orange. Here the altitude gives you cooler weather which allows for more hang time which results in more flavour. It's also cool to have a cool climate wine that is served cool.
Unlike normal Shiraz, this wine was pressed of its skins earlier so as to not extract too much tannin and allow you to chill it. (The reason you don't usually chill red wine is because of the tannin which is quite astringent when cold, think similar to cold tea).
The wine itself has beautiful ruby red tones. Think fresh summer strawberries, watermelon and cherry, with a long vanilla finish.
