Leo Italian blend 2022 - Adelaide Hills, South Australia
Nero d'Avola, Aglianico, Dolcetto
This wine is named after Dave's son Leo. The idea for this wine was a more complex, rich and age-worthy wine inspired by the Valpolicella region in Italy. A wine we could put away and drink with Leo for his 18th Birthday but also that drinks wonderfully now.
To achieve this we used a blend of 3 different Italian wine vairetals that you wouldn't normally see in a blend. Starting with Nero d'Avola, famous from Sicily and providing, the frame, structure and bold fruit. Secondly, Aglianico, famous from Southern Italy, providing delicious juicy red and blue fruit mid palate and finally Dolcetto famous from the North of Italy giving some freshness and finess. The three combine to create an integrated wine of complexity and balance.
The Nero d'Avola came in quite big and rich and we let it rest for a year in old French Oak barrels to soften things up a bit. Combined with the Dolcetto and Aglianico it is a true delight for those seeking a wine that brings together the best characteristics of each grape. Its opulent fruitiness, well-integrated tannins, and intriguing spice make it a standout wine on its own, deserving of contemplation. Additionally, it would be an exceptional companion for hearty dishes such as grilled meats, rich pasta dishes, or aged cheeses.
For those who appreciate wines with depth and personality, this blend promises an extraordinary and memorable experience. Enjoy it now, or let it age gracefully in the cellar to unravel even more fascinating layers over time.
