Géologie Riesling - 2023
Clare Valley, South Australia
This is a pretty classic Dry Clare Riesling. As the label indicates this wine is all about balance. Aim is for clarity & freshness. Juicy citrus and white flowers.
Organically grown from a dry grown vineyard just out of the Clare township, a pretty special area.
The vineyard soils are predominantly clay over rock, granite and slate. I still don’t understand how the Clare makes such great Riesling, it’s really hot and dry and the water sources for irrigation are the lowest allocations I’ve ever seen in Australia but it just does it every year.
This site is shoot thinned and bunch thinned to reduce disease and allow ripening early. Picked at 10 baume. Whole bunch pressed and only free run juice was fermented.
